Hi all, I'm new here and hope to learn a lot from all of you. I'm here to help my DH, he was thrust upon consulting and it looks as though he will be doing it indefinately so the thought occurs to me that he needs business help. He is not business savvy and I have nothing really to do with the whole consulting gig except I'm his supportive wife with more time than he.

My initial question is regarding forming an LLC. The way I see it, he needs tax shelters and he needs to look at himself more like a business than just an individual working from home. Do you think it's wise to form an LLC? He didn't even realize that he needed to do quarterly taxes. LOL. Poor guy. I need to line him up with professionals but I can help set him up to get him started as an LLC if this seems important for tax benefits, etc. What's your advice?? TIA

Re: Consultant needs business advice.

Hi SunGodess and welcome to the forum!

I would talk to your accountant about the legal structure of your consulting practice, however, many new businesses start off as LLCs. Because your husband is new to consulting I wanted to point you to our sister site PeakStrategy which geared to independent business consultants. The site is still in beta, but if you see something that would be helpful for your husband, please email or call me and we can get it to him. Good luck with your new business!
